In 2011, the European Union commenced works to determine fire safety criteria and classify products used in the construction sector. The Construction Product Directive (CPD) was drawn up. As a result of these works, the Construction Product Regulation (CPR) document was approved in July 2013. In June 2016, the European Committee published the following standard: hEN50575 Power, control and communication cables. Cables for general applications in construction works with a specific fire resistance class. The final effective date for this standard in member states is the second half of 2017. It was a cold morning in November 1948 when the Katowicki Sport announced to the readers that the Physical Education and Sports Department of the Central Union of Miners was striving to merge a several miner clubs existing within one location. It was planned that the first club of this type would be formed in Zabrze, as a result of a merger of Pogoń Zabrze, Zjednoczenie, Concordia and Skra, and this would be Górniczy Zakładowy Klub Sportowy Górnik. Fire safety is regulated by law, and supervision of the accurateness of the regulations, their observation and risk assessment is ensured by fire experts. However, no valid fire classification of cables has been made until recently. The European Commission undertook to fulfil this important task.

Fire classification of cables is a real breakthrough from the perspective of designers, contractors and companies which plan building investments – regardless of the type of such an investment (office, hotel, hospital, public facility, industrial building, etc.).
